On August 21, 2026, at approximately 4:24 p.m., emergency services received reports of a commercial chemical container fuming behind a commercial structure. Concentrated hydrochloric acid reacts readily with ambient atmospheric moisture to produce visible, dense hydrogen chloride aerosol fuming.

  • Response Actions: The Green Bay Metro Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team established an isolation perimeter, evacuated personnel from the building, and conducted atmospheric air monitoring for acid gas concentrations.

  • Mitigation: Hazmat personnel applied basic neutralizing agents to the corrosive liquid puddle and mechanically secured the breach on the container.

  • Resolution: Re-entry was authorized at 5:14 p.m. following clearance monitoring. Zero injuries were reported.
